Hong Yu Chen is a renowned baritone from China. He earned his Doctorate in Solo Singing at the University of Arts in Belgrade and completed advanced studies in Germany, obtaining the Konzertexamen degree (doctoral level) with distinction at the University of Music in Saarbrücken. He also studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Mannheim, the “Franz Liszt” Faculty in Weimar, and the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest. His vocal training was guided by distinguished pedagogues, including Eva Randová, Éva Marton, Krassimira Stoyanova, Rudolf Piernay, and Nikola Mijailović.
He is a multiple prize winner at international competitions, including First Prizes at the Antonín Dvořák International Singing Competition, the Johannes Brahms Competition (Austria), the Ada Sari Competition (Poland), the József Simándy Competition (Hungary), the Imrich Godin Competition (Slovakia), UPMCF (France), the J.E.J. Reszkow Competition (Poland), the Romana Vaccaro Competition (Germany), and the Città di Alcamo Competition (Italy).
He has performed at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall, Oper Frankfurt, the Bayreuth Festival (Haus Wahnfried), the Tyrolean Festival, Opéra-Théâtre de Metz Métropole, the National Theatre Weimar, the National Theatre in Belgrade, and the Hungarian State Opera. His numerous concert engagements throughout Europe and Asia include collaborations with orchestras such as the Deutsche Staatsphilharmonie Rheinland-Pfalz, the Brandenburg State Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonic, and the Orchestre National de Lorraine, under the baton of distinguished conductors including Christian Thielemann, Helmuth Rilling, Gustav Kuhn, and György Sándor. In addition to his solo career, Hong Yu Chen is Professor of Solo Singing at the University of the Arts of Inner Mongolia in China, and from 2019 to 2023 he served as a lecturer at the University of Szeged (Hungary). Since 2026, he has held the position of Director of the International Club for Vocal Arts and Artistic Exchange at the Xiamen Institute of Technology. He is also a sought-after mentor at masterclasses across Europe and Asia, as well as an organizer and jury member of the prestigious “Belvedere” Singing Competition in Shanghai.
